On my way to Mt. Tremblant - 41 weeks to go!!

Sep 09, 2022

September 7th, 2022.  My training peaks calendar tells me that it is 41 weeks until event.

It is a glorious week here at my cottage in Northern Ontario. It is unseasonably warm for September and ideal for training.

The cottagers have returned to fall routines and the lake is quiet. It is my swimming pool. A large, flat, calm pool with lots of “organic matter” and no lane ropes. I do have to share with the passing ducks who look at me in a very odd way wondering what this “human” is doing on their turf. The feeling is indescribable as I stop in the middle of the lake and look at the clear blue sky and wispy clouds. I am surrounded by water and it is so peaceful.

The highway is quiet overall and there is a good shoulder on which to ride as I challenge myself with the rolling hills of which this area is so famous. They are not the steep hills I may encounter at Mt. Tremblant. They are longer with grades of between 4-6. I am reminded that I have quads and that perhaps these quads have not been challenged for a while. The scenery is breathtaking.

Running right now is slow and steady. I am happy to do a short distance and 4 and 1’s which means run 4 minutes and walk one. I am up to 4 kilometers. Considering that a few months ago I had crutches and an air cast, I am pretty happy. For me the running portion of Mt. Tremblant will be about completing it in the allocated time with no strain or injury. I really have no point of view about speed.

This week as I start to build a base for next summer’s race, I take a moment to celebrate where I am at and the gift of moving in all the ways a triathlon allows.

How does it get any better than that?
