Rising Above Performance Anxiety

February 27 | 4:30pm EST | Your time in the world

As a musician and athlete, I know well the feeling of performance anxiety.

It can be debilitating.

On stage or in an audition, my heart races, the bow shakes, panic arises. Mostly for me, in solo situations where I can not hide.

Performance anxiety can be like a storm on the day of or a gentle wave of panic that crescendos as the day arrives.

In my sport of triathlon, it can show up as fear of the water, fear of the unknown hills, fear in general. Insecurities despite the training.

And...

What we are never taught is that much of this is our ability to perceive the anxiety of others and take it on as ours.

We are never taught that it can be us perceiving the projections and expectations of others.

We may not be taught how to breath. Only told to breath.

We may not be taught to “talk” to our bodies and ask for more ease.

We may rely on self medicating.

None of this is wrong. It just “is” and…

What if there was another way?

What if greater ease was possible?

You are fine, you are prepared, you are confident.
